Starting these two courses in the summer was a bit challenging for me. I’ve had the pleasure of working full time as a financial aid counselor while trying to be the best wife and mother I can be. Summertime is a crucial time for financial aid, although there is not a lot of activity on campus, we are working hard on the back end to ensure our students are properly awarded for the 2022-2023 aid year. I have attended at least eight new student orientations this summer. I am not a fan of working on Saturday, but I really enjoy teaching our newbies/freshman about how financial aid works. I also use this time to explain to students and parents the importance of being financially literate. Students need to understand what kind of loan they're getting, what’s the interest rate, and what are the repayment options etc. I believe that this message is easier to express at a freshman level because our students do not have as much or if any student loan debt. They are not dealing with the pressures of completing school by any means and other financial responsibilities currently.
Being a wife and mother in the summertime is usually routine. I continue to do my normal daily activities while trying to keep my children occupied because they have so much free time. As a family, we always go on vacation in the summer. This summer we traveled to San Antonio, TX and Atlanta, Georgia. My children were able to learn about the importance of the Alamo, the start of the Coca Cola industry, and Martin Luther King’s legacy. I’ve tackled all these things while enrolled in two courses in the ADL program. Needless to say, I am one tired sistah!!!!
