Contributions to Your Learning and the Learning Community - Spring 2023

EDLD 5389 - Developing Effective Professional Learning 93/100

EDLD 5318 - Instructional Design In Online Learning 96/100

Throughout both classes this semester I worked hard to contribute to my overall learning as well as towards my peer group goals. This was the fourth session that I approached my own learning model of group reflection to process not only how I performed but also how I contributed feedback to the overall learning and group discussions. At the beginning of these two classes, I was not sure how to best connect with other classmates or how to go about forming another group. However since I know this is a requirement for all of my classes, I decided to reach out to others via class discussion board and used the student lounge. Luckily, I was able to locate other people in my classes that were interested in the same types of research that I would be doing with my own work. My learning community currently consists of two hard working ladies that are also employed at Lamar University, Melissa Strout in EDLD 5318 and Dawn Short in EDLD 5389. I feel like the size of the group worked well for the most part and allowed each of us to evenly contribute and adhere to our daily work schdules. Everyone was reliable and responsible and we had good communication and collaboration within our group. Everyone also stayed focused and worked hard towards our end goals and made any necessary changes and improvements along the way for the betterment of all.

After reviewing the self assessment marking guide, I have given myself a score of 93 in 5389 and 96 5318. Here is the rationale for my grades and a list of what I contributed directly to my learning group:

  1. Throughout each class discussion, I provided feedback on a regular basis. Our group used different forms of communication each week such as: phone calls, texts, emails, google docs, and video meetings. I was present and an active participant in all of these forms of communication throughout the term.

  2. During both classes I helped to revise information and give input to others in the group. I also gave ideas and reflection each week during both classes via the discussion board. This allowed me to also reflect on other peers outside of my own learning group as well. I feel I could have been a little more active in my 5389 discussions, which is the reason for the lower score.

  3. I worked hard to complete all course readings, videos, and supplemental materials throughout both classes. However, I did have a rocky start in the beginning and submitted my first assignment a day late.

  4. I attempted to meet all of the various course deadlines as indicated on both class calendars. It is challenging at times but I managed to turn each assignment in. There were some assignments I had to resubmit a few times, because of content.

  5. I was glad to know that we are allowed to combine our reflection responses and felt this also made sense because of areas of overlap in class. For example, as I was working on my 5318 Course Outline, I found ways that it also would connect with my 5389 Alternate PL. Since I am working on the same concept of financial literacy it made since to combine all of my concepts and ideas as much as possible.

After going through this reflection process, I feel good about how I performed and contributed to my learning overall. However, there is always room for improvement in some areas.

  1. Contribute to the group discussions prompts a little earlier and provide deeper reflection as well as respond back to extra peers beyond the required number.

  2. Work to seek out my core learning group members sooner within class. Now that I understand the many benefits of this process I will work to utilize this skill in future working group situations as well.

  3. I should continue to improve upon my APA citation skills as well as continue to improve the overall function and design of my e -portfolio.
