Developing A Growth Mindset

In Carol Dweck : “Developing a Growth Mindset” video speaks of the “yet” message. She explains how the power of “yet” is used as a learning curve to expand one’s knowledge. It challenges the mind to think about the most difficult obstacles. Adopting this concept changes the way you learn because it allows you to work hard and challenge yourself to do things you wouldn’t normally do. This concept can create conflict between the “now” and “yet.” Most of our students are more focused on the “now”, the next A or doing well on test versus learning something that will contribute to society. I personally have mix feelings about the growth mindset. I understand how “yet” is more beneficial because it helps expand my mind but, in the end, I still want the “now.” The goal is to get that A at the end of the day.

In Eduardo Briceno: " The power of belief - mindset and success, explains how we develop a growth mindset. He explains how Josh Waitscan became a world chess champion by learning martial arts. I personally wonder how does one relate to the other but when you have a growth mindset your able to build certain abilities that challenges you. Your mindset definitely has an affect on your performance. I am currently learning and trying to develop a growth mindset, whenever I am challenged on learning something new that seems to be a bit difficult I tend to stir away from it. However, this program has challenged me to explore the way I think and how others think to accept my failures as signs of improvements.
